Design & Teach Your Own Course via FB Groups (Class for May 2018)
So, you’ve seen my MANYYYYYYYYY Facebook, Twitter and Instagram posts about the small classes/workshops I lead.
Things like, “Get the K on Instagram!” or “X Blog Posts in 14 Days” or “The Art of Negotiation for Influencers.”
Straight up (lol), I offered my very first class because I needed to come up with $400 in 48 hours. I sat down and I was like, “What can I have 10 people pay me $40 to learn?”
“What can I have 10 people pay me $40 to learn?”
There’s this idea that because something is “Googlable” that folks won’t take a class from YOU about it. “Why should someone pay me, Bri, when they can just watch YouTube videos for a few hours?”
WELL. I’ve made close to $10,000 on people paying me to teach them stuff they could OSTENSIBLY learn from a “Dummies” book.
And here’s why:
- Because YOU are teaching it. People value YOUR knowledge and YOUR experience, because they know you (or a friend has vetted you)
- Because other resources are OVERWHELMING. Give me a topic, and in 2 minutes I’ll have 2 different articles saying OPPOSITE things about doing it
So, how I do I do it?
Well, that’s what my next course is on (cue groan).
Course Schedule
- Monday, May 14: Pick a Topic that Will Sell // I’ll go through how I pick topics, and how you should pick your FIRST course topic. We’ll talk in the group, and 1:1, about what topic your first course should be on.
- Tuesday, May 15: Architect your “subtopics” or “What Can You Talk about for an Hour a Day?” // I’ll guide you through picking 5 sub-topics, and organizing your thoughts for your course, and outlining the topics for each day.
- Wednesday, May 16: PRICING & MARKETING YOUR COURSE // This topic seems to terrify everyone, because showing up and saying, “i know about [x], AND YOU SHOULD PAY ME TO TEACH YOU ABOUT IT!!” can be real scary for folks. But honestly? Your network will be so relieved that there is a socially acceptable way to “pick your brain.” We’ll also talk the pros/cons of sliding scale pricing.
- Thursday, May 17: BOUNDARIES! (Part 1) // How to set boundaries and communicate with participants how long they have access to your brain, how to determine if you want to offer 1:1 coaching sessions, etc
- Thursday, May 17: PRACTICE (Part 2) // How to practice your “on camera” teaching style, how to recover if you BLANK in front of people, and how to get the eff over stage fright
- Friday, May 18: LAUNCH & Sales Copy// TIME TO CLOSE, PAL! In this interactive workshop, I’ll go through how to write a sales page (like this one ;) ), how to answer questions pre-course and how to suck it up and launch your course.
HOMEWORK, BABY
Most of my courses have “optional” homework. Not this one. You should be prepared, the week of this course, to sit down and do 1–2 hours of work or writing PER DAY.
Also, unlike other courses, this course includes a 1 hour workshop call with yours truly.
You will leave this course with a course of your own, ready to go.
- Pre-Course: Show up with 10 different SPECIFIC topics on a course you could teach (Up to an hour)
- Monday: Finalize Topic (up to an hour)
- Tuesday: Outline 1 class (~1 hour)
- Wednesday: Outline 2 classes (up to 2 hours)
- Thursday: Outline 2 classes (up to 2 hours)
- Friday: Sales copy
Within 24 hours of submitting your homework, you will get notes. You will likely get my notes within an HOUR of you submitting your work.
EMPHASIS: You Don’t Need to Get ~Fancy~
If you’ve liked at websites like Teachable or Udemy, and dinked around with creating a course — you don’t need to get that fancy.
Yet.
I have iterated 3–5 times on each course I offer, so that I can (now) offer a higher priced and vetted course that I KNOW brings ROI and value.
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
- You regularly get folks saying stuff like, “Can I pick your brain??”
- You may find yourself talking about a specific topic — and you wonder if you could get paid to talk about it.
- You feel comfortable sitting on your laptop and talking to people about a specific topic
- You’re a coach, freelancer or consultant — and you want to add a revenue stream//be more affordable to people who can’t afford your 1:1 hourly rate (or want a place to direct “brain pickers” to to pay you)
What is this gonna cost me?
COST
- $249 per participant paid HERE via PayPal***
* Worried about affording the fee? I encourage you to crowdsource. Ask your community on social to help you and pitch in $5 or $10. Your community wants you to succeed. They want you to make money, and asking for $ to do so is an act of faith that will be met with support.
I SET THIS PRICE, because I want you to have skin in the game. Your first course, with 10 participants should net you at least $400. This is not some passive “Oh, maybe I’ll run a course?”
I’m here to kick you out of your fucking comfort zone, baby.
Your community wants you to succeed.
This course is designed to push you outside of your comfort zone, and it’s hard to do that without skin in the game.
Get in the game.
NOTE: If $249 makes you go, “NBD!” I challenge you to pay $329. Money makes people pay attention and get shit done. This is not a course that you should mosey through — this is a course designed to dropkick you out of your comfort zone and make you more effing money.
