Hacks/Tools for managing your Social Media Marketing

Hello hello! Welcome to Day 26 of my “30 Blog Posts in 30 Days.” I missed Day 25 (womp), so I’ll be donating $20 to the Transgender, Gender Variant, and Intersex Justice Project. WHEEEE!

I’ve worked for the past 7 years (woah) as a marketing consultant, and I’ve tried a lot of different apps, plug-ins and tools. Here are my favorite tools and tricks, because you actually have a business to run and can’t be on social all damn day.

Need help with content marketing or social media advertising? Let’s chat!

1. Sprout Social is LIFE

So I’ve tried a BUNCH of social media schedulers, and SproutSocial is by far my favorite. It has metrics/audience tracking, etc etc, but what really takes the cake is the ability to have multiple user accounts for one organization.

This is smart for Sprout Social (more logins == more $$$), but ALSO is great because the program enables you to mark and TRACK customer service issues (or positive experiences). One of the most frustrating parts of social media management is trying to keep track of 1:1 conversations, and SproutSocial has a tool to track and ASSIGN follow-ups to a team member.

SproutSocial is a game changer, allowing you to fix complaints and engage with super fans.

2. Love Your Followers: Regram App

Creating branded content for social media is a metric crap ton of work. Product photo shoots, acquiring stock images, etc etc.

But, as your brand grows, you can (and should!) repost content other people make of your products/brand. BUT you’ll want to be sure to give credit and tag the original post.

By using the Regram app, you can make sure to give credit (via a little add on that the app adds to a photo) AND it copies and pastes the text of the photo, saving you from having to type out their caption on your iPhone.

3. Canva FTW!

Honestly, y’all I don’t know what we did before Canva.

Actually, I do. We spent countless hours on Photoshop or InDesign, swearing up a storm.

Canva provides awesome layouts, and if you have a pro account, you can upload your brand fonts and specific hex codes. Also, you can collaborate with other team members on designs, and also make email headers and all sorts of other awesome marketing graphics.

4. Followers+: Track your Instagram Followers

Okay, so I’m not a fan of the #Follow4Follow game, BUT for your brand’s Instagram it’s imperative to keep an eye on who your most engaged followers are — and also track your ratio of accounts you follow vs followers.

There are oodles of apps that do this, and I love Followers+ because it compares engagement across posts, and lets you schedule Instagram posts. (Now, it doesn’t let you schedule and “leave it,” no app does that. But it does let you prep the copy and image, and schedule a reminder to post — all from your phone.)

5. Pinterest For Curating Content

Along the same lines of curating content (as discussed in #2) is sharing content made by other folks. I like to use the Pinterest app to curate this content, to post when I’m in a low content production space and need to update social. At JST_ASK, team members collaborate from across the USA on a few Pinterest boards, sharing articles and graphics we want to add to the social queue.

(Pro Tip: Use the Google Image Search took to cite sources/original creators. It’s good legally and karmically. ❤️)
