Social Media Marketing 101, or, “How Do I Social?”

When I was 20, I crowned myself a “Social Media Marketer.” I wanted to work remotely and travel the world, while taking time off from Stanford. I went to B&N, bought a STAAAACK of marketing books, and learned as much as I could.

Since then, I have worked for non-profits, startups that have failed and startups that have flourished, influencer/bloggers, event companies, as well as fashion/beauty companies.

I really, really enjoy working with scrappy entrepreneurs.

Folks have been asking for me to run a sort of “Social Media Marketing 101 Course,” so here it is! I’m excited to share my 7 years of knowledge (and mistakes) with you all, so you can go kick ass online! ❤

Who is this course for?

If you’re an entrepreneur trying to figure out what social media channels to be on, what the heck to post, and feel overwhelmed with advice or “how to” articles, this course is for you!

THIS is where I see people go wrong. Social media is SOCIAL. It’s not a bulletin board that you can post things and walk away, never looking at the platform again. ❤

This is also a great course for people who want to begin working as a social media specialist, or people who don’t need to run social media marketing for themselves/their biz, but they want to be able to talk about social media strategy with their colleagues!

Skill Level Check:

  • You have a profile on at least two social media sites, and you understand how to post an update to those specific sites.
  • You feel comfortable using email and have bought something online, like from Amazon!
  • You’ve gotten really frustrated trying to use books/websites to help you figure out social media marketing.

How does it work?

The course takes place on FB Groups, and you’ll be in a class of approximately 10 other people. You’ll network with other goal diggers, AND you’ll have access to the videos for as long as Mark Z keeps Facebook Groups around.

Note: If you’re not sure how FB groups work, that’s okay! I’ll walk you through it. ❤

I’ll hold 5 coaching calls (Facebook Lives) at 8PM MST, which are highly interactive and tailored to your specific needs (you’re encouraged to ask questions via FB comments throughout the call).

Can’t make every evening? That’s okay! You’ll be able to watch later and ask questions if you’ve missed something.

Course Schedule

  • Monday, March 12 // Platform Overview: What type of users are on each platform (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & Pinterest), how to decide what platforms you should be on, and the management tools I use to stay sane when managing social media.
  • Tuesday, March 13 // Facebook Pages & Ads: How to post and manage a FB page, how to use 3 different kinds of FB Ads, and how to grow FB Likes.
  • Wednesday, March 14 // Instagram: How to post to Instagram and Instagram Stories, use hashtags, source images and grow your account! (Note: I think IG Ads are pretty garbage, except for apps, so I won’t be going into detail on how to use them.)
  • Thursday, March 15// Twitter: How to tweet and retweet, how to join Twitter Chats, promoting an ad on Twitter and how to grow your following!
  • Friday, March 16 // Pinterest: How to upload pins, manage a Pinterest board and run 3 different kinds of Pinterest ads.
  • BONUS SESSION: I’ll also do a session, on a date and time voted on by the group to go over Influencer Marketing, and talk about finding and working with influencers/bloggers to grow your social media accounts even faster.
From Pew Research, different types of people are on different platforms. You DON’T need to be on every social media platform — the key is to prioritize where your customers/users are.

Let’s Go!

Ready to get started? Class fee is $43 to $69 USD, sliding scale, payable here. Once you pay via PayPal, your spot is secured in the group! I’ll add you to the FB group on March 11.

SLIDING SCALE

I’m a proud Special Snowflake, so I offer sliding scale pricing on all of my classes.

  • $34: Full-Time Student or working less than 20 hours a week
  • $47: Fully employed, but money is tight
  • $57: Fully employed, going to brunch is feasible
  • $68: You are fully employed, have savings and will travel this year

REFERRALS

If someone takes the class on your recommendation (and you’re taking the course), I’ll send you a $7 commission via PayPal!

TIMING

This course is part of the course creation plan for So You Wanna Blog?. I offer this course as requests come in, and once it’s an established online course (likely thru Teachable) it will be $79 — $129 USD.
