The Art of Negotiation for Influencers — November 2018

Y’all could use some help.

Well hello, cutie!

After attending conferences for plus size bloggers and influencers (from The Curvy Con to Curves in Bloom), I’ve realized.

Y’all aren’t getting paid what you should be.

So, on this trip, I got to hang out with a bunch of my ~Internet Friends~ IRL! Babes who have been working it on The Gram for years and have engaged and thoughtful followings.

The problem is, while you have followings in the TENS of thousands, you’re struggling to get, you know, paid for their work.

Ah, the influencer paradox (eye roll).

I got my butt in gear to offer this course earlier this year, when after seeing dozens of Facebook posts (on personal profiles, not public), from bloggers and influencers who JUST WANNA GET PAID, DAMN IT.

And, then I thought of a lot of other bloggers I’d chatted with, who face this conundrum.

FUN FACT! This may come as a shock to some of you, but quite a few fashion brands don’t pay influencers or bloggers to post about their clothes. And MANY bloggers struggle to break even with the costs associated with blogging.

Many bloggers are actually operating at a HUGE loss, in money terms. Think about the number of HOURS it takes to communicate with a brand, scout a photoshoot location, find/secure/pay a photographer (or wrangle your partner into taking pics), edit photos, post a photo with a caption, AND THEN engage with comments on your post, etc.

Half of an influencer’s job, it seems, is actually educating brands on WHY they should be paid (fml).

Y’ALL, PEOPLE NEED TO GET PAID!

I’ve taught this course twice before, and the testimonials and feedback has been incredible. It’s out of beta, and this course is a bootcamp explicitly designed to make you $$$$.

~Le SCHEDULE~

  • Monday, November 12: Affiliate Marketing 101// In this class, I’ll talk about what affiliate marketing is and how to use it to make $$$$. Once you have an affiliate marketing strategy in place, it makes it LOADS easier to convince brands to pay you for sponsored content. Ever blogger needs to be using affiliate links.
  • Tuesday, November 13: Researching & Pitching New Sponsors// In this class, I’ll talk about how to look at products you already use as a starting place for sponsorships, how to find new products/brands in those areas, as well as how to explore new niches for sponsorships.
  • Wednesday, November 14: Cold & Warm Pitching Brands & Measuring ROI// In this class, I’ll talk about the myriad of strategies you can use to get ahold of the ~Influencer Marketing Coordinator~ at a company, as well as ways to measure what your ROI for a brand is — so you can adjust your rates accordingly!
  • Thursday, November 15: MEDIA KIT! // In this class, I’ll talk about figuring out what rates to put in your media kit, as well as how to effectively DESIGN a media kit.
  • Friday, November 16: Building & Maintaining Relationships// In this class, I’ll talk about how to continue to build and stay in touch with professionals who handle ~influencer marketing efforts~at a company, and build longterm relationships.

Classes will be held at 8PM MST. Course videos will be stored in a Facebook group, where I’ll also answer questions throughout the week. Videos (via FB Live) will be available for as long as Zuck Inc keeps FB groups and their content around. ❤

COST OF COURSE**

Course is offered on a sliding scale, detailed below.

NOTE: Sliding scale is NOT meant to stress you out. These are recommended price points. The goal is for YOU to feel good about what you’re paying, and you should pay an amount that will make you show up/implement the knowledge from the course.

A half-assed signup isn’t going to get you what you want out of this course.

⭐ More details below. You can join by PayPal’ing here, or inquire about a PayPal payment plan.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS CLASS?

This class is designed for bloggers with 10,000+ users who follow them on social media. But! It would also be helpful for people currently trying to build their blog, with the goal fo being a full-time blogger, or making money through partnerships.

WHY SHOULD YOU LISTEN TO ME?

Good question! I’ve managed influencer partnerships for influencers, and I have also scouted influencers for brands to work with and managed partnerships (anywhere from $50 to $5K in single ad buys).

I’ve also been freelancing/self-employed for the last 7 years, so I understand the grind of pitching and securing invoices. Everything is a negotiation, and everything is done in a quest to prove value.

Most businesses do not get the value of influencer marketing, so they’re hesitant to pay for it. My goal in this course is to teach you how to increase the ROI of sponsored posts, so you can develop longterm relationships with sponsors.

A HANDFUL OF PAST PARTICIPANTS

Note: Click on name to go to their platform/blog. I’m being vague in this section so I don’t mess with folks SEO!

“Brianne helped me make the decision to raise my rates and stop accepting free product — unless I REALLY wanted it. I feel more confident going into negotiations, because I know my numbers.” — Suma

“Brianne is all about helping bloggers/influencers grow and learn HOW TO GET PAID! She has been instrumental in my launch/grow my blog and social media. If you’re interested in doing the same, follow her! And take any class she offers.” Miranda

“Can I just give a big, HUGE thank you to Brianne right now? My goal at the beginning of the first course I took was to be able to afford moving out. Toronto is one of the most expensive cities in the world, and it seemed like a dream a million miles away.
I’ll more than likely be moving out in the fall (just gotta find a place) with how steady my income has become. I’m so beyond grateful for everything I’ve learned in this course! Thank you!!” — Sarah Anne

*** Worried about affording the fee? I encourage you to crowdsource. Ask your community on social to help you and pitch in $5 or $10. Your community wants you to succeed. They want you to make money, and asking for $ to do so is an act of faith that will be met with support.

This course is designed to push you outside of your comfort zone, and it’s hard to do that without skin in the game.

Get in the game.

SCHOLARSHIP

Two scholarship spots are being offered, explicitly for trans and gender nonconforming creatives. If you’d like to learn more about this, please send me an email! <<BrianneHuntsman@gmail.com>>

NOTE: If $189 makes you go, “NBD!” I challenge you to pay $249. Money makes people pay attention and get shit done. This is not a course that you should mosey through — this is a course designed to dropkick you out of your comfort zone and make you more effing money.

HOW TO ENROLL

Enroll by paying via this PayPal link. I also offer $20 off for every person you refer to the class, paid via PayPal when they sign up. Be sure to have your referral note on PayPal that they have enrolled on your recommendation.
